Kojima’s Five-Year Grind: Games Before Silver Screens?

Just finished re-playing Death Stranding last week. Those endless cutscenes felt like movie nights with weird baby pods. Now Kojima says his next big game needs five more years? Dude’s making us wait longer than a MGSV stealth mission.

We all know Kojima loves films more than Sam Bridges loves ladders. His games already play like interactive Scorsese flicks. But chasing Hollywood now? When I first skipped Death Stranding’s hour-long credits, part of me wondered – is this guy training us for actual cinema?

Remember grinding through Metal Gear’s codec chats? Those felt groundbreaking then. Now Physint’s “action espionage” tease hits different. Kojima’s 60. He survived a pandemic. Maybe creating games that outlive him matters more than ever. But can a film director’s chair wait six years?

My buddy jokes Kojima’s games are just movie trailers with boss fights. There’s truth there. When that third Act 3 cutscene hit in DS2’s preview, I yelled “Let me play!” at my screen. But damn if I didn’t rewatch it later like some deleted Marvel scene.

Here’s hoping Physint’s marathon dev time brings something fresh. Games need mad visionaries, but cinema’s siren song is strong. Kojima deserves both – if anyone can merge them, it’s the guy who made delivery walks feel epic. Just… maybe fewer baby metaphors next time?
